AMOUR wines
Matt will tell you, “It started with a dream… and then a lot of good old hard work!”
He began dreaming of wine making in 1997, during his first trip to a local wine region. After much travel in 2007, he decided to swap insurance and law to follow his dream of becoming a wine maker, graduating in Oenology, from Charles Sturt University in 2013. Amour Wines was established the following year.
The vineyard is at 690m altitude - distinctly cool climate, however slightly warmer than most other parts of Orange producing single vineyard wines.
Amour comes from the French… l’amour – love. Add equal parts of love and terroir and we reckon that’s what you’ll taste from the bottle.
We had the good fortune to visit Matt and Katie, with some great friends and it was a spectacular afternoon. Great venue, great wines, great host - it is always a pleasure to hear a passionate winemaker talk about the wines like a new addition to their family.
Matt will tell you they’re “all about well balanced, linear elegance and patiently produced wines. No pumps and no hurry with the Chardonnay, which generally spends 18 months in French oak, Pinot Noir 12-18months and the Shiraz staying put for 24months before bottling”
That’s a little technical for us… we just know that we love Amour wines and we tell everyone thy should pay Matt and Katie a visit. You certainly won’t regret it. Just be prepared to leave with the boot of your car stacked with little something to take home.
Tasting by appointment - just give Matt a call on 0423 240 720 to arrange. You’ll find them at 69 Bruce Road, Orange [ignore the Google Maps notation].
